A few things Oct. 10th, 2003 @ 11:53 pm
First, my hair... I got it cut and I bleached it tonight :) I'm not completely thrilled because, in my rush to bleach (yeah, I love haircolor lol) I didn't think about how DARK my natural color was. It definitely requires double processing. However, it's ok like this and I do the second part tomorrow - after a trip to the store. Anyhow, if you're brave enough for a pic, see the cut: cut for the squeamishCollapse )

Ok, now on to other things...namely, me. I'm feeling SO uncreative these days. I haven't been keeping up with my LJ, I've not been blogging (I have another blog too lol).. I've just been in such a funk. And now, now I have only slightly over a month to get this damn magazine put together. I was sick for a week and that set me back on it even more than just being in a funk already had me.

Anyhow, I'm trying to work on it now. It's a PITA to do a layout in HTML. Why am I doing it in HTML? The first issue is electronic only. We discussed doing PDF, but ultimately decided that HTML format would work better for this particular case. Of course, that means that I'm coding pages. Hand coding because I'm weird and I have a thing against WYSIWYG editors. I just don't like them. Anyhow, that's me..

Oh and not only do I get do the the HTML.. but.. we don't have enough stuff so I get to write articles too.. Yay. It's not that I'm not capable, I am. Only, I have so much other stuff to do... editing, coding, keeping up with the message board, posting inane fluff in an effort to get ppl talking. then there's the usual keeping up with my three kids stuff too LOL.

Anyhow, I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed, but it's ok. I've always worked well under pressure. I know, I know, bitch, bitch, bitch... LOL

I am a Goddess Sep. 26th, 2003 @ 05:38 pm

A post that I just replied to on a message board got me thinking.

Prior to having children, I worked as an exotic dancer. Yes, dear reader, I was a stripper. I no longer have the body for it even if I wanted to go back.

Does that bother me? No, not in the least.

I now have the body of a Goddess. A beautiful mother Goddess, blessed with the abundance of being able to care for my children. My body is marked with the trophies of motherhood. Each line and mark tells a story.

My breasts have provided food and nourishment for three children. They’re lower and larger, no longer the perky breasts of my youth. When I look in the mirror, I know that they have served their purpose. They have done what they were created to do, nourish my children. With these breasts, I was able to feed them in the best way possible, the way that Mother Nature intended.

My hips are now larger. They have remained a bit larger with each subsequent child. They are no longer bony, as they were before, but instead, they are soft - comfortable. I now have a place that is perfect for carrying a child. My children do not complain that my hips poke them when I hold them. Instead, they snuggle up to me and enjoy being held.

A map of stretch marks covers my belly. I wear them all as a proud badge of motherhood. They are a map of my passing from girlhood into womanhood.

No, my body is not the same as it was before. My body does not fit the American ideal of what is perfect. I would never make the cover of a magazine or walk high fashion runways. However, my body is beautiful and perfect the way that it is. I am a Goddess.

Happy Mabon! Sep. 23rd, 2003 @ 08:36 am
According to the US Naval Observatory, the Autumnal Equinox occurred on Sep 23 2003 at 6:47 AM EDT. I was awake :) Even after being up until 1AM, I was awake.

I love fall, especially in New England. The briskness in the air, the colors, and the smells it brings. The days begin to grow shorter as the earth prepares herself for winter. The trees shed their leaves and prepare to be blanketed by snow. It is time for harvesting. Tiny seeds have blossomed and spouted and we may now enjoy the fruits of our labors.

Mabon is the Witches Thanksgiving. It is a time for rejoicing. :) Today I am reminded just how much we have. Times have been rough lately and sometimes we forget. I have been with a beautiful family, a place to live and enough food to eat. I am rich with love and family.

Today we will be going apple picking to celebrate. We will bid farewell to summer and welcome the abundance that fall brings. We will come home and make potpourri and two apple crisps. The second crisp we will take to our neighbors, so that we may share our blessings with them.

In the extended entry, you will find the apple crisp recipe.Collapse ) Blessed Be, my friend.

Today be International Talk Like a Pirate Day. Really matey, I don't make this shit up. In honor of Talk like a Pirate day, arrr, my pirate name be Mad Mary Rackham - Every pirate is a little bit crazy. You, though, are more than just a little bit. You have the good fortune of having a good name, since Rackham (pronounced RACKem, not rack-ham) is one of the coolest sounding surnames for a pirate. Arr!
Avast, ye bilge rat, does ye wanna talk like a pirate too? Me? I think I'll fetch me some grog and see what crawled out of the bung hole. Maybe then I'll swab the deck, arrrr!

» I'm back from the blue chair of death
aka the dentist. I have one word for you folks out there in cyberland. Ouch! Yes, ouch!

I didn't have all of the fillings done. I was due to get 7 but after talking with the dentist he felt that a periodontal scaling was more important. So I had a few of the fillings (the worst ones) done and 1 quadrant scaled.

Everything I read (by biased dentists, of course, they lie) and asked (yes, the dentist again) said that a peri cleaning wouldn't hurt afterwards. Ok, it didn't...well, not until the numbness wore off. Now? It is fucking killing me!! Ouch!!

And for those of you in the peanut gallery thinking I'm just a wimp....have you ever experienced a periodontal scaling? A so called "deep cleaning?" Well...essentially, they scrape under the gum and scale the *root* of the tooth...

I go back for more in January.. I must be masochistic *sigh*

Oh yeah, I was sedated via conscious sedation. I *highly* recommend it for anyone with a fear or apprehension about dental work.

So that's my day.. I'm off to pop a few more ibuprofen.

LOL, my mom would be SO proud.. I'm a menstrual product..
You are a divacup!

You stand out from the crowd and are not afraid to
go out on a limb and try new things. You often
like movies and bands most people have never
heard of. Daring, original, and fun, you often
challenge the cliches of society and are highly
respected for your openness and courage. You
have many friends and are a strong leader.

What menstrual product are you?
